Julio Antonio Montoro Curbelo: Musical Director and Guitarist

Julio studied music, learning to play the Cuban Tres as well as the guitar at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory, graduating in 1991. Whilst studying he performed in jazz festivals playing with various groups. In 1993 he joined the group of singer Mireya Escalante playing keyboard and guitar as well as being musical director and in 1996 he joined the group Kemell y la Barriada as pianist, recording several albums with them as well as participating in various international tours. He toured Europe with them and various Cuban orchestras including Reve, Charanga Habanera, and later joined Felix Baloy of Afro-cuban All star. Later he was the director and arranger in orchestra Felix Baloy when he left Afro-cuban All stars. One of the tracks on the first Album Zorro has been used various times by the television network CBS Studio inc. in the serial The Perfect Son´Cane

Since 2013 he has worked with Edesio Alejando and his son Cristian performing various times in Cuba and also producing music with him for television programs and film.

He has performed in many different concert halls and clubs such as New Morning , Java , Paris , France and Malmo in Sweden.

In 2014, he became the musical director and arranger of the band Tomezclao touring the UK and performing at Glastonbury festival and produced 3 CD's for Tumi Music.

He has also worked as the guitarist with the singer Laritza Bacallao, performing with her at the "Cuba Mucho Gusto" festival in Brasilia, Brazil and whilst in Brazil he also worked with the famous Brazilian pianist Joao Donato at Club Do Choro.

In 2014 he launched his debut album Alma Latina with Tumi Music. This was quickly followed by the CD Guajira Mas Guajira with Eliades Ochoa. In 2017 he set up his studio "Alma Latina Studio" recording for artists several CDs with artists such as Candido Fabre, Reina y Real, Arturo Jorge among others.

In 2017, he participated as the guitarist and tres player in the CD "Tronco Viejo" with Johnny Ventura which later was short listed for a Grammy award. He also worked with Silvio Rodriguez.

In 2018 he participated in a Charles Fox concert in Havana with Edesio Alejandro as well as recording the "Black Roots" CD.

He currently lives in Havana with 4 year old daughter "Sady" and his wife. His little daughter has also contributed towards the Black Roots CD.

Dayana Rosa Botello: lead vocals

Dayana was born in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1990.

She studied singing at the school of Arts in Tunas and from there continued to the Jose White Conservatory, Camagüey where she finished in 2008.

She then returned to her old home town in Tunas as a music teacher as well as becoming a member of Melisma vocal octet.

Later in life, she toured Cuba with several bands as a lead vocalist including Emilio Morales and quintet First space and performed in large concerts paying homage to some of the great Cuban musicians and singers such as Barbarito Diez and Elena Burke.

She later became the lead singer of Rafael Somabilla Music Company, Matanzas, Cuba. She also travelled around Cuba working as a voluntary music teacher. She was also the lead singer of the band Tiempo Libre, based in Varedero, Cuba.

In 2017 she became the lead vocalist of the "Black Roots" project, directed by Julio Montoro and Alma Latina. She appears regularly in various TV programmes together with Alma Latina and her time is divided between Varedero where she sings in night clubs and Havana where she is lead singer of Alma Latina.
